So... lately I've been obsessed with this "new" (okay, new to me, it's actually been out for quite a while) British TV show called Sherlock. And when I say "obsessed", what I really mean is "losing-sleep-not-doing-homework-ermergersh-fangirling" obsessed. So yes. I'm obsessed. But you can't blame me, right?? The show is epic.
So, a little summary thingy for non-Sherlockians: Basically, Sherlock is the modern version of the Sherlock Holmes novels written by Conan Doyle. And if you don't know who the original Sherlock Holmes is... then... you just need to get from under your rock. You have to know who he is. ^_^
REASONS WHY SHERLOCK IS INCREDIBLY AMAZING
1. Plot
Sherlock's ability to deduce things just by looking at someone is awesome. One of my favorite parts is how you can see Sherlock's deductions in the form of his little "thoughts" that appear on the screen. This way, you're still as shockingly amazed as before and you actually know how he got to his confusion.
Steven Moffat (director) and the screenplay writers are all geniuses (genii?). I have no idea how they managed to figure out all the different little clues that Sherlock uses to solve the mysteries, but they did it. For example, the lock password in the Scandal of Belgravia (see, now you have to watch it to see what I'm talking about) is a work of pure genius.
And I know that they took some of the plot from the actual books, but they still had to make a lot of it up to fit the modern-day setting. The twists and turns will keep you hooked (Sherlock>sleeping and homework) and the endings were always a surprise.
2. Characters/Actors
Geez, this had to be one of my favorite parts. First of all, the actors themselves are amazing. Both Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes) and Martin Freeman (John Watson) are incredible and believable actors, but my favorite has to be Andrew Scott (Jim Moriarty). Moriarty is a pretty... er... interesting guy, and Scott pulls it off perfectly.
The characters are also great. Sherlock's inability to be social is HILARIOUS. The producers used this time after time as a way to relieve the tension. I can name several instances that had me cracking up in front of my computer (which my parents might have been confused about since I was supposed to be doing "homework"). (Click here to see some of the hilarious quotes.)
A lot of shows nowadays have terrible 2-dimensional characters that are full of stereotypes and have no personality. Sherlock is not one of the shows. John Watson is the main protagonist, one of the only normal people in the whole shows and the constant voice of reason. Pretty stereotypical so far, right... until you figure out that Watson misses the war. Jim Moriarty plays the insane antagonist, and his habits are so erratic and changeable that it leaves the watcher on the edge of their seat, wondering what trick he's going to pull next.

Alright, I could go on and on about how incredible this show is, but I think this evidence is enough. :D
